Sister City Tateyama’s
2022 Wakashio Marathon
Tateyama is one of seven sister cities with Bellingham. Pictured is Yuko Tachikawa who also ran the Bellingham Bay Marathon back in 2019. The runners in Tateyama’s Wakashio Marathon each ran the course this year on their own and recorded their time online to the race’s website. What a great example of the honor system.
Copied from the marathon website: The marathon route features numerous spots from which runners can enjoy Tateyama’s fantastic scenery. Every year over 10,000 people come from all across Japan, as well as from Tateyama’s sister cities in the US and Australia, to enjoy the variety and beauty of the Wakashio course. For those who run the full marathon course, they enjoy Nanohana flowers in full bloom along the 6km Boso Flower Line as well as views of the inland hills, valleys, and Mt. Fuji floating above Tateyama Bay. Local residents will turn out to cheer the runners along the roadside.
